Sam WilsonIndiana University Bloomington
American Recruitment Director Sam is currently a senior at Indiana University Bloomington majoring in International Studies with a concentration in Peace & Conflict and minors in Religious Studies and East Asian Languages and Cultures. Having always been interested in learning about other cultures and beliefs, Sam decided to pursue an education and opportunities which would further his understanding of these areas, including studying Chinese and Spanish at his university, and studying abroad in Nanjing, China for a semester. These and other similar travel and educational experiences have helped shape his interests and inspired him in many ways.
Sam first heard about TASC in an email from his school and decided it to apply, since he knew little about Taiwan and figured it would be a good way to experience and learn more about a different part of the world, and participated in TASC in the summer of 2017 in the Cultural Conflict and Identity Roundtable. Through TASC, he learned much more about Taiwan, was amazed by its rich culture and history and developed a deep appreciation for the country. He was also deeply moved by the strong friendships that developed during this experience. Participating in TASC helped further demonstrate to him the great potential and importance that opportunities like this can have to those involved and for the whole global community. With the sincere belief, based on this experience, that efforts like TASC can help the world to become a better place by producing cooperation, understanding, and peace between cultures, and by helping people to grow and learn as individuals, Sam decided to join the 2018 American Executive Committee last summer as the recruitment chair in order to help contribute to TASC so that the program can continue to improve and make a lasting difference for those who attend. He looks forward to meeting the new delegates for 2018 and seeing the positive effects that TASC will have in the future. |
